Cold Symptom Monitoring & Infection Control Policy
Funderland aims to maintain a cold-free environment during the summer by implementing a cold-monitoring policy to protect the group from outside viruses. This policy helps minimize the risk of your child’s summer camp being the source of a virus they bring home, ensuring your household and other campers can enjoy their summer plans and trips without disruption. With the support of families, we reduce the risk of camp closures due to staff shortages caused by virus outbreaks. Additionally, unwell children struggle to keep up with or fully enjoy daily outdoor activities.
Cold-like symptoms include a clear or yellowish runny nose, a stuffed nose, sneezing, coughing, a headache, and a fever.
1+4 Day Cold Symptom Monitoring & Home Policy:
If your child shows cold-like symptoms during camp hours, you will be required to pick up your child. If you notice their symptoms outside camp hours, including a persisting runny nose, stuffed nose, sneezing, coughing, headache, and fever, please notify Funderland by email on the day symptoms begin and keep him/her home for 24 hours. If symptoms completely clear, they may return after one day. If symptoms persist or worsen, please keep your child home for an additional four days (five days total). Please note that Funderland will not admit children with any persisting cold-like symptoms unless the 1+4-day Cold & Home Stay Policy is completed, as these symptoms could indicate the early stages of a more severe virus. If symptoms worsen further or do not improve after five days, please administer a COVID test and, if the result is positive, keep your child home for additional days as required.
Allergy Update Report:
If your child has seasonal minor allergies that present with cold-like symptoms, including occasional runny nose, stuffed nose, sneezing, chronic coughing, red eyes, and more, please inform Funderland in their registration form or via email at least a week before their camp session starts to update their records. Otherwise, we are sorry that if your child displays any cold-like symptoms at camp without prior notice by email or in your child’s forms, these symptoms will initially be treated as a potential cold, leading to missed camp days in accordance with the “1+4 Day Cold & Home Policy.” So, please keep your child’s health and allergy records up to date.
Foods and Snacks:
Funderland Centre is a nut-free environment. Children will be free to bring and eat their lunch and snacks. Funderland Centre shall not prevent children from sharing their snacks. Parents are expected to read the labels for their child’s snacks carefully. Any product or item that has the label “may contain traces of nuts” are not to be brought into the Funderland Centre or field trips. Parents and guardians are responsible for any issues raised by their child’s food for others at the centre or on field trips. Also, it is parents/guardians’ responsibility to be aware of their child’s allergies and to educate them on how to protect him or herself in this regard. Funderland Centre staff, operators, and owners shall not be liable for any health issues caused by any type of food brought by other children.
Behavioural Expectancies and Group Rules:
Children will be expected to uphold standards of behavior. They will be expected to listen to and honor any requests, suggestions, advice, or rules given by Funderland’s director, staff, and volunteers with the understanding that this is in the best interest of all participants. Any behavior considered by the Funderland team inappropriate or unsafe for my child, other children, or staff, is a cause for dismissal and cancellation of the child’s registration. The fee is non-refundable as the child’s spot will not be used.
Emergencies:
In the event of a medical emergency, the Funderland team will have permission to immediately contact an ambulance/emergency service before contacting the parents/guardians to secure immediate medical treatment for the child, at parents/guardians’ cost if not covered by the government programs.
Medical and Travel Insurance:
If a child is not covered by Canada’s government-funded healthcare system, parents/guardians are responsible for purchasing medical (travel) insurance or supplementary medical insurance, or paying any medical expenses for their child’s emergency and follow-up treatments arising from hospitalization, medical treatment, physio, etc., and Funderland is not liable for those expenses.
Photo & Video Sharing:
Funderland Centre Corp will take occasional pictures and videos of children engaged in outdoor and indoor activities. By accepting Funderland policies, parents and guardians grant permission for Funderland to use photographs or videos of their children for promotional purposes, including but not limited to website content, social media, and promotional materials, and agree that Funderland Centre is not liable in case a third party copies and abuses those photos/videos.
Medication Administration:
In case of a child’s illness or underlying medical condition, even if these have been informed to Funderland before, Funderland does not administer medication, and it is the family’s responsibility to manage their child’s own medication.
Transportation:
By agreeing to Funderland’s policy, parents and guardians authorize Funderland Centre Corp to transport their child on foot or by any designated vehicle for all field trips and outings, including those arranged with third-party transportation companies and their drivers. Funderland Centre owners, operators, managers, and the team of staff will do their best to keep the facility, environment, trips, and activities as safe as possible. However, parents and guardians agree that accidents are inevitable, given the nature of Funderland’s highly active summer camp, which includes frequent outings and field trips to various public locations. Therefore, Funderland owners, operators, managers, and the team of staff will not be liable for any injury to their child or loss or damage to their personal property arising from, or in any way resulting from, my child’s attendance at Funderland Centre or on a trip arranged by them.
Parents and guardians agree that their child’s participation in the Funderland Centre Corp camps, including both indoor and outdoor activities and transportation provided by Funderland Centre Corp, and any 3rd party transportation hired by them, is voluntary and may involve inherent risks of bodily injury. They acknowledge that Funderland Centre Corp has made every effort to ensure the safety of all participants, but accidents can still happen.
Camper’s Health and Behavioral Disclosure:
It is parents’ and guardians’ responsibility to share any diagnosed medical, mental, behavioral, or physical conditions affecting their child before and during this registration and to promptly update Funderland by email if any new concerns arise after registration. This includes ongoing assessments or concerns previously reported by educators. Transparency is essential for the child’s well-being and the safety of all campers and staff due to the nature of active summer camp programs. Therefore, Funderland is not obligated to provide additional support, specialized attention, or extra supervision beyond what is provided to all other campers.
Parents and guardians are responsible for the accuracy of the information they have provided separately in the “Medical and Safety Assessment” form for their child and for any consequences resulting from inaccuracies.
Parents and guardians are expected to follow the “Funderland Summer Camp Family Guidelines” and adhere to the policies outlined in them, emailed to them separately.
Liability Waiver:
By registering their child at Funderland’s camp program, parents and guardians release, waive, and discharge Funderland Centre Corp, its owners, operators, and staff from any and all liability, claims, demands, actions, or causes of action arising out of or related to any loss, damage, bodily injury, including death, that may be sustained by their child while being transported or participating in camp activities. They hereby agree not to sue or bring any legal action against Funderland Centre Corp on behalf of their spouse, their child, or themselves for any injuries, damages, or losses, including subsequent claims in the future, which may arise after the initial incident, and claims for income interruption, follow-up treatment expenses, and mental health therapy expenses, for both themselves and their child sustained during participation in camp activities or transportation. They further agree to indemnify and hold harmless Funderland Centre Corp from any costs, damages, expenses, or liabilities, including attorney fees or any legal fees, claims for subsequent injuries, income interruption, follow-up treatment expenses, mental health therapy expenses, both for themselves and their child resulting from or related to their child’s participation in camp activities or transportation.
This agreement is governed by the laws of the province of British Columbia, Canada. Any legal action or proceeding related to this agreement shall be brought exclusively in the courts of British Columbia.
By signing the Funderland Camp Participation Agreement or making payment to Funderland Centre Corp, parents and guardians acknowledge that they have read and understood the terms of this liability waiver agreement and voluntarily agree to its terms and conditions on behalf of themselves, their spouse, and their child.
